Remembering the Visionary : Honoring the Legacy of CFAS
C. Cherian hailed from an aristocratic family. He was an industrialist, a ferocious competitor, a charming socialiser, lover of art, literature and overall a glorious leader. He started his career in the police department and later on ventured into seafood industry. He could create supremacy in this line of business and hence he became popularly known as Chemmeen Cherian. This name was a recognition for his achievement in the seafood industry. He served as the President of the Seafood Association and remained in the post until his sad demise on 13th June 1999 as he was having overwhelming supporters in the industry and there was no alternate choice for him. Seafood industry witnessed a tremendous growth by spreading its tenacity of strength and name throughout the seafood trading countries in the world. Our Story
Where Creativity Takes Center Stage
On March 16, 1991, those assembled in the premises of YMCA, Fort Kochi for the purpose of forming a cultural organization has at the end of the day decided to form a society for the development of art and culture in the Western part of Kochi under the Charitable Societies Act and named it as the Cochin Fine Arts Society (CFAS) under the leadership of Late C. Cherian and he was the founder president and there was no alternative to his abilities and leadership. It posses distinctiveness as being the only cultural organization founded by him in Kochi. The society acquired predominant position in the promotion of fine arts and it was made possible only because of his great vision. He continued to be the President until his demise in the year 1999.
